America the Beautiful is part of the Grolier Online Passport and is inspired by the critically acclaimed America the Beautiful book series. The America the Beautiful database covers the 50 United States as well as US territories and dependencies and is designed for use by students from 4th to 8th grade.
The entry page lets users select the state they need from a clickable map of the United States. Once a state is chosen the introduction page is displayed and links to topics such as geography, economy and cities can be found on the left hand side. Other information that can be found includes profiles of famous people, fast facts, history and government. Each state page has a link called maps and media that provides links to all maps, pictures and videos used for each state section as well as a link to websites chosen by the Grolier staff.
All articles include citation information and the ability to print and email the whole article or selected sections. A search bar in the upper right hand side of the screen allows searches on all the Grolier online products, the America the Beautiful database only or even just the selected state article.
Some unique features of the America the Beautiful database include a link to teacher resources with state project ideas, quizzes under the What Do You Know link on each state article, timelines of the states and a printable word find for each state.
